How Cornish Soap is Handmade: From Kitchen to Soap Bar

Every bar of Kernow Soap starts life the same way — with care, curiosity, starting in a kitchen in the heart of Cornwall.

We’re a small, family-run business. Since 2021, we’ve been handcrafting natural soap, and in December 2025 we moved into our unit at the Glebe in Blisland, North Cornwall.  What began in a tiny kitchen has grown into a craft we're deeply proud of — but the values behind every batch have never changed.

It starts with the ingredients

Before a single bar is made, we think carefully about what goes into it. Our base recipe has been formulated using a selection of oils chosen for their quality and their gentleness on skin. We source locally where we can, and we never compromise on the natural credentials of what we use. You can read more about our choices on our Our Ingredients page.

The handmade process

Handmade soap — true cold-process or hand-poured soap — is fundamentally different from mass-produced bars. There are no shortcuts. Each batch is weighed, mixed, and poured by hand. The soap then needs time to cure, which allows the bars to harden and the natural glycerin (a skin-loving byproduct of the soap-making process) to develop fully.

This slower, more attentive process is why handmade soap feels different on your skin. It retains properties that industrial manufacturing strips away.

Made in Cornwall, with Cornwall in mind

Cornwall isn't just where we make our soap — it's woven into the way we make it. From sourcing ingredients from local suppliers to packaging without plastic, sustainability shapes every decision. We believe a product that's good for your skin should also be good for the place it comes from. Read more about our approach on our Sustainability page.

Why it matters

When you choose a handmade bar, you're choosing something made intentionally — by a real person, in a real place, with ingredients selected for a reason. That's what we stand for at Kernow Soap.
